I am thinking of buying a vaxuhall frontera as any one any advice about what to look for?

The frontera, Is the same as most cars on the market at the time, a mix of well kept ones and Very poor kept ones. If you are going to get one, look out for problems like;

The heater - Make sure the heater blows hot and cold air, And that the temperature stays at a steady mark. The repair can be costly and to replace the heater Matrix the dashboard has to be removed, Meaning lots of work for a small job.

Also If you are going for a diesel, check that the turbo is working properly, and that it doesn't stick or only work when it feels like it, Again can be a costly repair.

Engine knocking is common in all diesels, but listen to the engine running for a while, The diesel engines in the Frontera should run smooth, when warm. On the 2.3 TD Listen for a rattling timing chain, As it can be an early sign of Wear.

Check the underside of the car all over, Brake lines and fuel tank straps are common areas to corrosion, As they are always getting wet, Look for signs of it being used off road (The beach will cause more damage than mud or gravel, So look for salt corrosion and bumps)

If you find one that is Good condition inside and out, With a good clean engine, they are very good, but unless you want to pay for the repairs to get it up to the standard you'd expect, Don't chance anything on something you're not 100% on.

Good luck and hope this helpsI am thinking of buying a vaxuhall frontera as any one any advice about what to look for?

Not a good car, mate. I worked at vauxhall in the service dept. Take a lot of time and money to fix when they go wrong. A timing chain/belt broke on one, and even though the owner realised and turned off the engine straight away, it cost him well over a grand...
Another marque - these motors are just plain u/s junk.

Although my mate has one and he likes it - takes all sorts.
Yeah don't bother they depreciate fast and are unreliable pile of junk!
Iffy quality, especially the early ones. One of the major breakdown organisations had them for a while %26amp; found their patrols were spending more time fixing their own vehicles than they were the customers.

You might get a good one, if it's been looked after and had all its problems fixed, but it's a bit of a lottery!
Don't bother, used to have one. Swapped for a Jeep Cherokee 2.5TD and never looked back. Jeep is built better, goes better and doesn't go wrong (so far) Avoid land rover freelanders and discovery's too, they are both cack, very iffy build quality and reliability.
