Any advice about pcos?

I have just been told I have pcos and am really freaked out.My doctor is a man and dosnt really get what it feels like to be told this.Im not sure of anything and know that I would feel better talking to people who are going through it.Everything about it scares me.Any advice about pcos?
I have PCOS. The best thing you can do for yourself is start exercising regularly and modify your diet. Basically, eat clean and avoid processed carbs. Losing weight is very difficult with PCOS and studies show that we have to eat fewer calories than women without PCOS to maintain the same weight.


If you join the Yahoo Group for PCOS, there are a lot of women dealing with fertility issues. Some women look for a natural cure, others go for the fertility medications. I don't condone the latter unless you're willing to get healthy. ( I don't know if you're overweight or not. Most women with PCOS are).





Overweight women have increased pregnancy complications and birth defects so it's best to get in shape before trying to conceive.

First, take a deep breath and relax. Second, if the doctor you refer to is an ob/gyn, please have him refer you to an endocrinologist and let him know you prefer a female. They are specialists in hormone imbalances and can confirm the diagnosis, explain more, and help you conceive when the time is right. Even if it is an office of all-males 60 miles away, you are better off seeing a specialist who deals with patients like us every day.





I'm worried that your current doctor may have scared you more than necessary. The biggest concern when first diagnosed is fertility. Some people end up having very few problems with the help of medication, others have a harder time. You haven't mentioned anything about fertility, which tells me you're not trying yet. Relax. You have time to work with your doctor and take the right steps now to help you later (like losing weight, eating a healthy- almost diabetic diet).
