I am planning a trip next march so i want about 拢1000 credit which i would pay off by direct debit every payday (about 拢30 per week) between now and then.
could i get a card that will give me interest free until then and let me pay it all off, and can i cancel the card then without penalty?

Credit cards charge interest on the outstanding balance. If you don't pay off a credit card balance at the end of the month, the bank charges interest on whatever isn't paid off.
What fees and penalties a card charges will be in their Terms %26amp; Conditions. I've not heard of a card that charges a fee for closing an account.
Using a credit card to finance a vacation is an expensive way to do it. You'd be much smarter to save up 拢30 between now and next March and pay cash.
